Winter Solstice

In the Deep of Winter

Short days, long nights, and less sun. Rainy and dark to those of us sensitive to this time. It lasts for 3 months and would be a good time to hibernate, sleep in and rest ourselves. If we could only do it!
But we are self employed, or working on deadlines for someone else, have family responsibilities, demands on our time and attention, and holidays to think about and celebrate.
We need help to make the most of this time, and not get lost in sadness or worse yet- depression
Winter Solstice is about death to the old and then to plan for Spring to create and bring about rebirth within ourselves. What is darkest in your life? What loss or disappointment are you suffering from? Once you can identify it, name it, and own it, you can heal it.
But how do we keep our spirits up during this Winter time? You may need to add atmosphere in your settings. Candles in corners, fires in the fireplace, an animal in your lap, a book for good reading, your favorite drink next to you, and uplifting music in the background.
To get out of yourself, make the effort to meet new people. Make a decision to make someone new ‘a friend’. Send out a card to someone you haven’t seen or heard from in awhile. Call someone. Invite someone to dinner, a movie, a networking event. Invite someone into your holidays. Many are alone at this time, and it is good to be a ‘Good Samaritan’. You never know how you will touch or lift a person’s life!
