Burn out

For anyone who has recently gone through or is feeling burned out, here's how I handled mine.....

Burn out was much worse than I had anticipated. Actually I am using it for my first Blog, since Burn Out now has become my passion.

It seems the people who were most affected by my 'burn out' were generous and kind and showed me 'much' grace during that period.
I was lucky! It could have cost me business and relationships had it gone on without my handling it.

I did do what some friends told me to do, go home and make plans to go someplace away from my ordinary life, where someone else could make me their priority! And I did. I went back east to visit my favorite cousin, who loves me unconditionally, and she arranged her life to make me number #1 while I was there.

A few interesting things happened on the way to the forum...........part of that 'God works in HER wondrous ways'.........late departure out of San Jose Airport to Dallas due to thunderstorms in Dallas and Midwest, to spend a few hours with my daughter. Did you know that you can create a layover for 4 hours or less on your way to someplace else and not get charged? Well that was my intention. Layover in Dallas Fort Worth airport, have her pick me up and have time to talk and eat, (something I don't get to do often, since she lives in Fort Worth, and I don't go there much), someplace close to the airport.
Well my 2 plus hours with her were now a little more than an hour, and even less than that when it took ONE HALF HOUR to get an agent to come to our gate to let us off of the plane. My daughter was waiting outside for me for a half hour, as she got there early to pick me up. Needless to say I was............ (not very happy)............... in addition, the trickle affect had started. I was expecting my flight to Philadelphia to be late, NOT canceled.
More trivia.....did you know that when a flight cancels due to WEATHER, the airlines do NOT pay for a hotel, well American doesn't anyway.

So off we go to the closest place to DRINK! I was in no mood to eat!!
I had her check my flight to Philly, and it took us 40 minutes to reach a 'live' agent to give us the update. Well the flight to Philly was canceled. That's when we found out they don't put you up. Well lucky for me I had a daughter that lived within 15 minutes of the airport. She had just moved into a new home, in her old neighborhood, and I hadn't seen it yet. She took me out to dinner to a great restaurant for "white' pizza - do we have that here? No tomatoe sauce - just white cheeses with blobs of Riccota on it- YUM! and a bottle of wine between the two of us, which mostly I drank! Did a little shopping and then off to see her gorgeous home – (similar to her old one but better floor plan! 3900 square ft!) and my 3 grandchildren, and no luggage, which they promised me would go on my flight with me or a flight earlier the next day............hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.....you KNOW that didn't happen!
Great evening with everyone. My grandson slept on the couch so I could have his bedroom, got up and put on yesterday's clothes. Not the best feeling, and my daughter took me to the airport early so she could make her flight at Love Field in Dallas. Uneventful flight to Philly, but no luggage!

Took Rapid Rover (Super Shuttle) to my cousin's. She lives as close to "a farm" as you can imagine. 1 horse, 2 miniature horses, hens and chickens galore, dogs and cats, and they live in her husband's family house - the year - 1792. Darling home! They added on to it so it is modern yet still has MUCH 1792 character to it. Ron greets me with a hand picked bouquet of flowers from their garden!
I told my cousin on the phone I needed protein cause I had so much junk at the airport, so she made a 5 course dinner for me: Deviled eggs, shrimp cocktail, sea bass, veggies and peach/apricot cobbler for dessert. The beginning of my great visit!
After dinner we went to feed and tend the horses, and gather the chickens and hens into their cages for the night.
Then waited up for American to deliver my luggage at 2:30 in the morning.

I slept in everyday, we ate out at the most adorable restaurants - Burlington NJ is like a historic town, shopped for antiques - for the fun of it, and went to Ron's band’ end of the year concert’ that he directs at a private school. When Ron went to the school to teach private music lessons, they had no band. I was completely blown away with what he had done with this group of kids! They started out with the William Tell Overshure. It sounded like the original.
Ron got lots of great attention for what he has done at the school! Then out to have sundaes at the local ice cream palour.

The weather was great while I was there………but before I knew it my 3 days were up and I was back on Rapid Rover to Philly airport.
I left late in the day so I could spend as much time as possible with the family, my flight left close to on time and it was uneventful flight to Chicago. Left an hour late out of Chicago, so 1 hour on the ground with mechanical issues, plus 4 and a half in the air in a full ‘tight’ flight, is tooooooooooooooooo much!

So no Chicago’s when I can do Dallas layover in my future. Less time in the air and at least you can walk around on layovers.

My suggestions: book a massage the day after you return from a long flight.
Handle “Burn Out” before it handles you!

I finally got my deep tissue massage 2 weeks later addressing many body issues since I waited so long.....

How do you know you are in or are approaching 'burn out'?

1. You are in a bad mood more than you are in a good mood. And you are a good mood person.
2. Little things annoy you that would not bother you normally.
3. You forget appointments you have made, either by not putting them in your calendar, or if you did, forgetting them anyway.

If any of things seem to be happening- do something soon - treat it as if you were home sick with the flu in bed.
Get away for a few days minimum - out of your own environment. Give yourself "time off" so you can come back to your life refreshed!
